————————————————————-Â Decree
It is a pious tradition that the Archangel Michael, Prince of the Celestial Army, had declared to a devout woman who was in the habit of honoring him daily with acts of homage, that he would be grateful if a special manner of prayer be introduced in his honor and that of all the other celestial choirs. He therefore, would concede many favors to his devotees in their social necessities, specially in the Catholic Church, of which he is the perpetual Protector.
It derived that these special prayers, in honor of the Celestial Prince, were practised with great ardor by a cloistered Carmelite nun in the monastery of Vetralla, who died in the odor of sanctity in the year 1751. Since this devotion was practised with great profit for souls, some religious of the aforesaid monastery, desirous to render those spiritual benefits common to all faithful, humbly petitioned the then Sovereign Pontiff, Pope Pius X, to obtain for those who devoutly recited these prayers, the following indulgences:
I. Of seven years and as many forty days, each time the Angelic Rosary is recited.
II. Of hundred days, in which everyday the Rosary is carried on the person, or only if kissed the annexed medal with the image of the Holy Angels.
III. Plenary indulgence once a month if the Rosary is recited daily and if confessed and communicated, prayers will be said for the exaltation of the Holy Church and the preservation of the Sovereign Pontiff.
IV. Plenary indulgence by the same means, enjoined on the following festivities: 1st - the apparition of St.Michael on May 8th; 2nd - of dedication on September 29th; 3rd - Archangel St.Gabriel on March 18th; 4th - of Archangel St.Raphael on October 24th; 5th - of Holy Guardian Angels on October 2nd.
His Holiness agreed to the prayers during the audience granted to me, the undersigned Secretary; deigned by special grace to assent to it all, confirming the above statement, and thence ordered its publication through the Sacred Congregation of Rites, without forwarding the Papal Brief, for the concession of the above Indulgences to whomsoever recites the Angelic Rosary, and a special faculty to the temporary Confessor of the said monastery, to bless the said Rosaries with the usual rite of the Church.
Sacred Congregation of Rites ( August 8, 1851)
I. C. Lambruschini, Prefect
C. G. Fatali, Secretary
